Site Facilities
Doreen’s Lodge
Doreen’s Lodge offers a small indoor space which can be used as a base or an escape for the rain as part of your visit to Jordan Heights.
The lodge has a fireplace and small kitchenette area (kettle, microwave, electrical hot plate, hot water urn) that leaders can use. The building is off grid and is powered by a solar panel with battery or a petrol generator. The solar/battery setup will allow you to run the lights in the building easily, heavy use of the kitchenette will deplete it more quickly.
In the lodge we also have benches, tables, chairs, and a Colman shelter that can be pitches on the campsite.
Booking Doreen’s Lodge as part of your stay gets you access to our cabinet of lawn games.
The cooking Shelter
Newly rebuilt for 2026 and a popular facility on the site is our cooking shelter. There shelter is at the side of the main camping field and includes a fire pit and grate which can be used for cooking along with a built in BBQ area. There’s also a counter that can be used either for serving or for cooking from gas stoves.
We also have a cast iron wood fired pizza oven on site.
Wood Pile
We have a well stocked woodpile on site which has been recently stocked by the removal of some of the diseased trees on site. You will need to bring a saw and Axe with you if cooking on wood. Please help yourself to anything in the wood pile, if you’re using the other wood stores around the site (cooking shelter or camp fire) please restock these before you leave.
Any fallen branches or twigs from around the site and woodland can be used, but please do not cut down or damage any of our trees or fences.
No pallet wood should be used on fires, and our construction timber stock near Doreen’s lodge should also not be burnt.
Washing Up Area
The site has running mains water but that’s where the camping luxury’s come to an end. Across the site there are three washing up areas which are metal sinks. Two are located on the main camping field, one near Doreens lodge, and one near the water tap. The other is on the lower camping field near the toilets. If you use these you will need to bring your own washing up bowels to site. Washing up with hot water will need you to heat water yourself – most do this by standing a billy on the grate over the fire pit.
Camp Fire Circle
Within the Activity Field we have a campfire circle for your group to gather either for an informal evening around a fire or to host a full camp fire with songs and stories.
There is a separate smaller woodpile here but you can easily transfer wood from the main woodpile. Please do not burn any pallet wood.
Activity Field
Our activity filed contains the Camp Fire Circle, Traversing Wall, Shooting Range, Axe throwing Range, Catapult/Crossbow/Nerf gun range and Archery Range. You can also access the ‘night line’ from here too.
The main activity field is served by a generator for lighting, with lights on all of the ranges and traversing wall to allow them to be used into the evening and all year round.
If your group as suitably qualified instructors you can use our site equipment – or we can provide an instructor for your session from our district pool. You are welcome to hire the ranges and use your own equipment. Our Traversing wall does not require formal climbing instructor status.
Obstacle Course
Located off the lower camping field is our obstacle course, a number of different challenges can be tackled in the order you choose.
Toilets
As we’re off grid we’ve got not flushing loos on site. Instead we operate eco friendly composting toilets. There are 2 male and 2 female toilets, along with two separate urinal cubicles. Toilets will be prepared before your visit and emptied if required afterwards. We expect groups to keep the clean – cleaning supplies are on site.
Lighting is available via generator.
District Scout and Explorer Cooking Box
We also store on site a cooking box with pots/pans/utensils that can be used by groups from the district.
Rubbish Collection
There is NO rubbish collection from the site, please take all your rubbish home with you.
